Service focus
API storage tanks are the principal inventory assets of a petroleum terminal and must be designed for the actual product, operating cycle and site loads. The engineering basis addresses capacity, design temperature, vapour pressure, corrosion allowance, roof type, emissions control, wind, seismic conditions and future inspection access. API 650 is applied together with project specifications and local requirements, while product behaviour determines materials, seals, vents and internal fittings.

Engineering delivery
Engineering covers tank sizing, shell-course arrangement, bottom and roof design, nozzle loads, foundation interface, settlement criteria, stairways, platforms and connections to gauging, firefighting and drainage systems. Welding procedures, material traceability, nondestructive examination, dimensional checks, coating or lining inspection and hydrostatic testing are defined before fabrication begins. Settlement monitoring and final calibration confirm that the completed tank is suitable for inventory service.

Deliverables and project value
The owner receives calculations, drawings, material specifications, welding and inspection plans, test records, calibration data and as-built dossiers. A properly engineered tank reduces leakage, settlement damage, corrosion and unplanned outage while supporting accurate stock management. Access and nozzle provisions also allow safer inspection, maintenance and later integration of emissions or automation upgrades.
